Saxophonist, flutist, and bandleader Irwin Hall brings The World Within: The Global Sounds of John Coltrane to The Cutting Room for an immersive evening inspired by the international influences that shaped Coltrane’s music and artistic vision. Blending jazz improvisation with sounds and traditions connected to Africa, Brazil, Spain, and India, the project transforms Coltrane’s music into a vibrant live experience filled with expansive arrangements, spontaneous interplay, and global rhythmic textures.
A graduate of Princeton University, Hall spent years living in Japan and China and traveling throughout Europe, Africa, and Brazil in search of the deeper cultural currents that connect music across traditions. Those experiences helped shape a distinctive artistic voice that blends jazz improvisation with global musical influences into a powerful and immersive live performance experience, one that has taken him to stages around the world alongside artists including Melody Gardot, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ms. Lauryn Hill, El Debarge, and more.
Presented through a high energy ensemble and immersive live performance, The World Within invites audiences into a powerful musical journey where jazz becomes a meeting place for cultures, traditions, and shared human expression.
