Sonic Futures is Vermont’s premiere youth music showcase. Produced by the Harwood Union Music Program and led by celebrated educators Brian Boyes and Molly Clark, the collective is a celebration of youth artistry, creativity and voice that highlights some of the area’s best student led-bands.
This year’s show features the top winner’s from Harwood’s annual Sonic Futures Battle of the Bands.
The Assembly Band
Carrying on a 25 year tradition, the Harwood Assembly Band sets the gold standard for the modern high school band. Representing the best youth performers in the Mad River Valley, the band has shared the stage with artists such as Madalia and Russ Lawton and Ray Paczkowski of TAB. Showcasing amazing lead and background vocals combined with tight horns and a smokin’ rhythm section, the band performs a wide range of music from the Tedeschi Trucks Band to modern funk-pop groups like Lawerence and Couch.
The Harwood Assembly band inspires aspiring performers, giving upcoming high school musicians something to look forward to. Band members have gone on to become music students at well-known universities, solo recording artists in Los Angeles, and prominent members of well-known bands.
Glam Cowboys
Formed in early 2024, the Glam Cowboys are a central Vermont based high school indie-pop/rock band. The band includes Eireann McDonough on lead vocals, Tarin Askew on guitar and vocals, Cora Potts on drums, Cali Neville on bass, and Eliza Whitehair on keys. Known for their coordinated attire and live energy, they perform a diverse collection of original music, from upbeat disco-infused political jams to Western ballads with themes ranging from nature to social issues, written by Tarin Askew and Eireann McDonough. Glam Cowboys have been awarded runner up at Sonic Futures’ Battle of the Bands in October 2024 and 2025 earning a slot in their Spring Showcase at Higher Ground. They have performed at venues such as Zen Barn, Higher Ground, Firefolk Arts, and recently in MRVTV’s In-Studio Live Music Series.
Piper Hall
Piper Hall is a singer songwriter born and raised in rural Vermont. Her alt pop style is rooted in Americana and Country, while her songwriting reflects her experiences growing up in a rural small town. For the past 4 years, she has been performing at coffee shops, restaurants, farmers markets, and other intimate performance venues, as well as recording in studios in Nashville and Boston.
In May of 2025, she was awarded a scholarship from Learning to Fly to further study guitar. And most recently, Piper won best solo act at Sonic Future’s Battle of the Bands and is excited to perform a set at Higher Ground in Burlington in May of 2026.
