From touring as Headliner, to Opening Act for such major stars as Tony Bennett, Stevie Wonder, Al Jarreau, Steely Dan, Grace Jones, Celine Dion, Alicia Keys, Eric Clapton, George Benson, Sting, Janet Jackson, Prince and so many more, at the Sporting Club in Monte Carlo, to touring eastern Russia and South Korea through the US State Department, to command performances for King Hasan II of Morocco, First Lady Sally Mugabe of Zimbabwe, US Ambassador to Haiti and many more, award winning vocalist/songwriter Ty Stephens and his band (the) SoulJaazz, have made their mark for decades on the international scene!
Years before winning Jazzmobile Solo Jazz Vocalist 2006, Ty Stephens toured the world with luminary Harry Belafonte, as featured male vocalist, and later, with SoulJaazz, had the great honor of performing the official pronouncement of Prince Albert Of Monaco's engagement to his now Princess, Charlene, their first official dance, and are featured in the current promotional video advertising Monaco to world travelers. Ty has also spent the past 30 years as part of Japanese superstar Toshi Kubota's touring band, touring all over Japan and territories. Among many other accolades, Ty and the back are feautured in film: Ty's lead vocal in the title track to Ruben Blades' The Last Fight", the audio of the wedding scene in "Petunia" starring Thora Birch and "Jazz Club" an award winning (best music prize and best film prize in a French Film Festival in Britanny, France) thesis film by French Producer Paul Guerin.
Ty is a native of Philadelphia, Pa and began his career as a dancer, studying at the famous Alvin Ailey school, touring with modern dance company Rod Rodgers Dance Company and others, subsequently moving to Broadway in the original productions of Duke Ellington's "Sophisticated Ladies" and the short-lived Marilyn Monroe bio play "Marilyn, An American Fable". While on Broadway, Ty was mentored into perfecting his singing chops by the legendary Phyllis Hyman and Gregory Hines and began showcasing in cabarets and night clubs around NYC, while forming a band and writing his own songs.
The members of SoulJaazz are stellar within themselves, having performed and recorded worldwide: RICHARD CUMMINGS, Jr, on Piano, was Music Director for the legendary Harry Belafonte for over 2 decades, and has performed and recorded with Mr Belafonte, as well as Diane Reeves, Letta Mbulu, Hugh Masakela, Wayne Shorter, Zubin Meta, Georges C. Wolfe, Sherry Winston, Iyanla Vanzant and the great Jon Lucien, among others. ROBERT “R.T.” TAYLOR adds funky guitar to the mix and his credits include Beyonce, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, LL Cool J, Juels Santana, Robert Palmer, Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Billy Preston, Eddie Kendricks (Temptations) and McPhadden & Whitehead, among others. Dynamic drummer TONY LEWIS’ credits include live performance and recording with B.B. King, Little Richard, Sting, Vernon Reid, Nancy Wilson, Sam Moore (of Sam & Dave), and Richard Street’s Temptations, and more. Bassist GENE TORRES' credits include Ben E. King, Al Hibbler, Rahn Burton, Public Enemy ("He Got Game" soundtrack) Yousef Lateef, Chico O’Farrell, Ted Curson, Bobbie Humphrey, Craig Harris, The Weather Girls, Darlene Love, to name a few.

The Cutting Room is New York's legendary dinner theater and event space. All shows have a $25 food and/or beverage minimum per person (unless otherwise indicated on your ticket.) Please note the ticket price goes mostly to the performers and production staff. The club sells food and beverages to continue to bring live music to NYC.
